In September 2018, more than fifty Macaroni Kid Publishers across the country are hosting events that give back to their communities. Macaroni Kid East Lansing-Okemos-Haslett is participating this year by hosting a Kindness Rocks event on September 16th at Art Unlimited in Okemos. This event is for the benefit Haven House, located in East Lansing, and is sponsored by Art Unlimited, Ann’s School of Dance and The Blended Bakery.

Haven House provides emergency housing and support services for one-parent and two-parent families with children. The shelter helps families who are homeless prepare for permanent housing by developing and promoting self-sufficiency, stability, and financial responsibility. Macaroni Kid East Lansing-Okemos-Haslett is bringing the community together to help stock their shelves with items that they are in immediate need of. Participants can paint kindness rocks, enjoy some yummy cookies and have fun with other local families. The rocks will be spread throughout the community to spread joy to others.

"I love using my Macaroni Kid network to bring about change in our community while also being part of a larger national movement. It’s thrilling to see hundreds of publishers impacting their communities in a positive way in the same month" says Amy Romback, Macaroni Kid Publisher for East Lansing-Okemos-Haslett.

Over the past years, Macaroni Kid Publishers raised $50,000 for local charities, donated more than 35,000 diapers to families in needs, encouraged hundreds of kids to sign anti-bullying pledges, cleaned dozens of parks and trails and delivered more than 3,000 handwritten cards to first responders.

“Our local publishers honor their local communities and the entire Macaroni Kid family by using their reach to enrich our more than 550 communities and by showing Acts of Kindness in so many ways,” says Chief Macaroni Mom Joyce Shulman.
