MSU’s archery team was recently named one of the top five schools in the nation for archery. MSU’s shooting team, as a whole, continues to prove they are a force on the collegiate shooting circuit.

The pistol team recently placed 1st Collegiate in the Scholastic Action Pistol Regional held at The Cardinal Center in Marengo, Ohio. Team captain and club president Zach Cooper led his two four-member teams to the center-fire and rim-fire victory.

The precision pistol team, led by team captain and recent alumnus Tanner Pond, won the Central Michigan Rifle and Pistol League's first match of the season. It has been nearly two decades since a team from MSU has competed in a precision pistol team event.

Despite only having a four-member squad, MSU’s clay target team performed well in American skeet, 5-stand and Olympic bunker trap at The Cardinal Center.

Marilla Marks took a bronze in Olympic bunker trap with a 38/50 at The Cardinal Center.

The team is training and looking forward to competing in their first ACUI National Tournament in the spring of 2018 in San Antonio at the National Shooting Complex.

The team's success hardly comes as a surprise after coming off of the 2016-2017 season. At the NRA Club National Championships in Fort Benning, Georgia, MSU placed 7th nationally in smallbore rifle and 9th nationally in air rifle.

Head rifle coach, Jim Stewart, said, "Fort Benning can be a daunting and challenging experience, but both our air rifle and smallbore teams did very well. Our teams continue to improve and I'm excited for our future."

The MSU Shooting Club is open to interested MSU students and through an available associate member provision to MSU staff, faculty and alumni.
