2019 Hash Bash expected to attract a huge crowd to Ann Arbor

Set to occur at “high” noon, the Hash Bash will once again be held on the campus of U of M in Ann Arbor within the Diag.

Having started in 1972, this year a crowd of as many as 50,000 is expected.

Now, with the passage of adult recreational use, there are even more supporters lobbying for U.S. lawmakers to legalize the drug. The issue was decided for our state by voters back on November 6th.

However, rules also state public use is not allowed. Similar to alcohol, there are limits to the amount someone can possess and grow.

Ann Arbor police will be monitoring the even tomorrow and in the past haven't made mass arrests. In fact, no arrests were made at the 2018 event despite hundreds of people smoking pot.

Under state law, smoking pot in public is a civil infraction punishable by a $100 fine. The Hash Bash event is open to the public, and free.

Speakers will include politicians U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell, D-Dearborn, State Sen. Jim Irwin, D-Ann Arbor, State Rep. Yousef Rabhi, D-Ann Arbor and former state Sen. David Knezek.

Also expected to say a few words at the event are cannabis activists and musicians.
