Often parents of children with autism find themselves going to appointment after appointment at location after location.

A new autism center, possible because of a partnership between Beaumont Health and the University of Michigan-Dearborn, aims to make getting their children help easier.

7 Action News got a look inside the new autism center in Dearborn on Wednesday. It is the first place in the area to offer not only clinical and educational services, but a wide variety of treatments.

“They can come and receive all the therapies they need under one room, including medical diagnosis, medical follow-up, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and applied behavior analysis which makes it easy for our families,” said Michelle Teklinski, assistant director at the Center for Exceptional Families.

Applied Behavior Analysis is widely considered to be one of the most effective treatment options for individuals with autism. It involves understanding individual behaviors and modifying the environment to encourage socially appropriate behaviors.

“What we hope is with treatment and therapies, their symptoms are minimized and they can live their own dreams,” said Dr. Susan Youngs, medical director of Beaumont Center for Exceptional Families.
