WARREN, Mich. (AP) — A 23-year-old man has been arrested in Ohio after the body of his 68-year-old grandmother was found in a recycling bin in the detached garage of her Detroit-area home.
Police in Warren found the body late Wednesday night after the woman's son became concerned when other relatives had not heard from her.
Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer said the woman appeared to have suffered stab wounds to her neck. Investigators believe she was slain Saturday.
Officers tracked down her grandson about 3 a.m. Thursday at a motel in Toledo, about 58 miles (93 kilometers) southwest of Detroit. The 23-year-old man is the son of man who initially contacted police.
Dwyer said officers found a handgun and the grandmother's stolen vehicle in Toledo.
Warren is just north of Detroit.
