Woman in critical condition after getting hit by Consumers truck

A woman is in critical condition after she was hit by a Consumers Energy truck while crossing the street in downtown Jackson.

It happened around 1 p.m on Monday, March 12 at the intersection of West Washington Avenue and South Jackson Street.

Police say the 51 year old woman was using the crosswalk when the truck slammed into her while making a left turn. Investigators say the woman had the right of way.

The driver has not been cited or charged with a crime yet.

Consumers Energy Spokesman Brian Wheeler sent the following statement to News 10:

"On Monday, March 12, a Consumers Energy vehicle was involved in an accident with a pedestrian, at the corner of Jackson Street and Washington Avenue. We are working with local authorities to understand the details of the situation, including talking with the driver of our vehicle. Our thoughts go to the individual who was injured, as well as this person’s family and friends, and we are hoping this person can recover quickly."
