JACKSON, Mich. — Former Michigan State University defensive back Khari Willis has started a fundraiser to help raise money for local students to go to college.

Willis, a Lumen Christi High School alum in Jackson, started the online campaign called "Khari Willis Reps For Resources" for the Lansing Promise.

The fundraiser allows people to donate money for every rep Willis does on the bench press during the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine later this month. The bench press is one of many events during the NFL Combine where all 32 teams will scout over 300 college football players from across the United States, who will enter this year's NFL Draft.

"As I take the next step toward achieving my NFL dream, I have made an important decision to use my performance at the 2019 NFL Combine to support the Lansing Promise," Willis posted on the fundraising site.

"I was introduced to the Lansing Promise through a community service event with the MSU football team, and I knew right away that I wanted to do more. When I spent time talking with the children, I realized that these were kids just like me, going through a lot of the same things that I went through just a few years earlier. They deserve and need every opportunity to learn and succeed."

"I’ll be training extra hard knowing that with your pledges, every bench press rep is more money raised to provide educational opportunities for so many deserving youth," Willis added.
