UPDATE: Thousands sign petition to change Jackson County intersection

Posted

UPDATE: Thousands of people have signed a petition to change a Jackson County intersection where a mom and her two young children were killed in a crash.

The petition to change the McCain/Dearing Roads intersection went from 300 to more than 3,500 signatures on Saturday. Organizers have now set the goal to 10,000 signatures.

This comes after the Jackson County Road Department held an emergency meeting Friday, focused on the safety of the intersection. Department officials agreed they believe the design of the road is sound, but they are looking at ways to reduce human error.

On Thursday 26-year-old Autumn Coffey and her two children, 1-year-old Eli Jones and 4-year-old Kahlan Jones were killed at the intersection. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says Coffey ran a stop sign on McCain and was hit by a pick-up truck.
