A celebrated holiday known for candy won't be as sweet in one Iowa town because it's banning candy from its Halloween parade.
The city of Dubuque, along with the city's police department and organizers of the parade say it's all about keeping people safe.
Officials say crowd control has been difficult with the event growing every year and have had problems with kids running up from the sidewalk or curb towards moving floats to get candy.
Police say they've have had several incidents where kids have nearly been hit by the floats or cars.
But parents say the city is going overboard with banning candy all together.
"It's a little sad for the kids that they won't be able to get candy. Halloween is one of those special occasions for the children to have fun and get the candy," says Abby Stickey.
Another parent says her concern is with food allergies and says she would prefer if other items like pencils were handed out instead.
Police say anyone who throws out candy for Monday's parade, will be asked to leave.
