DETROIT, Mich. — A Michigan family is demanding answers after they were forced off a plane after passengers ‘complained’ about them. The family says they were kicked off because of their Jewish identity, but American Airlines says it was because of a different reason.
Yossi Adler, his wife and their 19-month old baby of Southfield were kicked off the plane after other passengers allegedly complained about the family’s body odor. Adler and his family were having difficulty getting back to their other eight children after a vacation in Miami.
Their flight Tuesday night was cancelled because of ice at the Detroit Metro Airport. On Wednesday night they were removed from the plane after complaints about their hygiene.
“Seriously? Body odor? What does that mean?” Yossi asked in an interview. “We take showers every day. Do you want me to go to the back of the plane and put some deodorant on?' He said, SORRY SIR YOU CAN'T YOU HAVE TO LEAVE.”
Adler says things only got worse when he and his family got to the gate to set up a different flight.
"They're holding their nose, like, 'It stinks. It stinks,’” recalled Adler in a previous interview. "That's what was so upsetting. The man said, 'Oh, you Orthodox people don't take showers.' That's what he told me. He thought we don't take showers. I'm like, 'That is absurd.'"
American Airlines has released a statement saying the family was kicked off the plane after passengers complained about their body odor. The airline says the family were provided hotel accommodations and meals.
Adler says the vouchers from American Airlines did not work and now the hotel they were staying in is planning to bill them. When asked, American Airlines did not give a response when asked about the employee who commented on the Adler’s being Orthodox Jews
