Reports say housing commission properties have issues to address

Code inspection reports have been completed at each of the housing units managed by the Lansing Housing Commission.

Mayor Andy Schor held a press conference on Wednesday to announce the completion.

A fatal fire at LaRoy Froh apartments prompted the city to look into inspections of properties managed by the LHC.

Inspection reports were released earlier this year for LaRoy Froh and South Washington Park. Wednesday, multi-family properties, Mount Vernon and Hildebrandt, were disclosed.

“We continue to work with the Lansing Housing Commission to discuss their progress on improvements of these properties,” said Mayor Schor. “We are pleased with their efforts and believe that they will meet deadlines we have set for compliance.”

Schor said that all of the units were inspected in accordance with the City of Lansing Housing Code. He added that there were findings in each of the buildings that need to be addressed.

The LHC is promising to bring each unit and building up to code and make additional safety and security updates.

They will be adding deadbolts to doors, updating security doors, and installing cameras in stair and entry ways.

“We are making rapid progress toward bringing each property to full compliance,” said Doug Fleming, Interim Director of LHC. “We have also made a commitment to our residents to complete all work orders that are submitted in a timely manner and make continued capital investments as needed.”
