EATON RAPIDS, Mich. — A community is on alert after a local restaurant was broken into for the second time in about a month.
If you watch the video, you can see the restaurant's windows boarded up after the building was broken into again Monday night.
People in the community say they are shocked that this keeps happing to such a hard-working business.
"They finally get their window fixed yesterday, I noticed. And, for me to drive by this morning and see it all happen all over again, it's upsetting for everyone," Shelby Wireman said.
Business went on as usual at New China Buffet, even after the second robbery.
Police said the first break-in happened in early January. There haven't been any other robberies at businesses in town recently.
"Man, it's really hard to see them go through that. As a business owner, nobody wants to see their place broken into, especially two times, you know?" Mark McGee said. McGee is the co-owner of Mark's Place, which is not far from New China Buffet.
The cash register from the restaurant was found just a few blocks away near Jackson Street and Kimbark Avenue. Police were at the restaurant this morning and are continuing to investigate.
People who live in Eaton Rapids just want whoever is responsible to be caught.
"Everybody just feels bad for them. They don't deserve that. They're really hard workers and are there 24 hours a day. They just don't deserve this," McGee added.
"I hope someone gets found. ... Justice, I guess. I can only imagine what they are going through, so I hope something gets done," Wireman said.
It's not clear yet how much cash was stolen from the register, but police say if anyone near Jackson Street or Kimbark Avenue heard anything, to contact them. If you have any information, you can reach them at (517) 663-8118.
FOX 47 News spoke with workers at the restaurant who confirmed the break-ins but did not want to go on camera.
