UPDATE:
Police have identified the victim in Monday's shooting as 25 year old Rachel Renee Duncan. The alleged gunman was her former boyfriend, 30 year old Timothy Patrick Olin. The investigation is ongoing.
A murder-suicide leaves investigators working to find out how a woman went from filing a personal protection order to being shot dead.
It all unfolded Monday afternoon at a local JoAnn Fabrics store when a man shot a cashier and then turned the gun on himself.
FOX 47's Cryss Walker has the latest on the investigation.
“It was shocking to hear, so yeah, I'm just shocked to hear about this”, said local shopper Jerald Jackson.
“Really tragic and unexpected and I feel really bad for all those involved”, Lansing Township resident Paul Zeppernick told FOX 47.
In a normally peaceful Lansing Township strip mall, a man walked in JoAnn Fabrics, opened fire and killed a woman working behind the counter.
“At a front of the counter, they exchanged some words, he walked out the store, came back in the store, they exchanged further words and then he shot the female employee”, said Lansing Township Police Chief Adam Kline.
The 30-year-old man used a semi-automatic weapon during the attack.
He then turned the gun on himself, firing a fatal shot to the head.
“A 26-year-old female from Eaton County and a 30-year-old male from Eaton County; they did have a relationship, we know that much”, Chief Kline explained.
The LTPD told FOX 47 that this was an isolated incident and that the 26-year-old victim filed a P.P.O. against the shooter but unfortunately their disagreement came to a tragic end.
The names of the victim and shooter have not been released.
