Meridian Township could take the next step to become the latest community in Mid-Michigan to allow medical marijuana businesses to set up shop.
Last January, Meridian Township officials approved a set of rules that sets up a permitting process for medical marijuana businesses.
The ordinance allows up to six dispensaries in Meridian Township.
A special joint meeting between the Meridian Township Board and Meridian Township Planning Commission is scheduled Tuesday to discuss zoning and non-zoning medical marijuana ordinances.
Officials are expected to approve the location of the areas where the businesses can go.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Town Hall Room at the Meridian Township Municipal Building on Marsh Road in Okemos.
