Maple Season off to an early start

Posted

The maple season has gotten off to another early start this year with a warmup in parts of New England. Producers hope the recent cold and snow will extend the season.

The head of the maple syrup makers association in Vermont says some producers have been going strong and producing a fair amount of syrup since about mid-February. Historically the season has started later.
Doug Bragg, of Bragg Farm Family Sugarhouse & Gift Shop in East Montpelier, Vermont, says the operation got an early start in mid-February with a good sap run from trees. It's now cold again, so he expects another good run.

Producers along the coast and in southern New Hampshire also had early sap runs during late January and early February.
