EAST LANSING, Mich. — There are changes underway for a major development in East Lansing.
Park Place Development was supposed to be a two-story building with a movie theater, condos, apartments, and 25-thousand square feet of retail space in downtown East Lansing.
After submitting the initial plan back in December, the developer, Royal Properties has submitted a new plan.
This new plan is scaled back, quite a bit.
Two buildings will now be one.
There will now be 13 floors of apartments, instead of condos and apartments.
And for motorists there are 100 less parking spaces in the proposed underground parking garage.
The new proposal does include a public market.
The development authority did vote to continue the sale to the Illinois-based developer.
However, city leaders say they are disappointed the project will not be at the level of the original plan.
They do think the public market will still bring people into the area to support businesses.
The changes are expected to slow down the process as the project most likely will not reach East Lansing's City Council until October or November.
The developer says they do plan to add onto the project at a later date.
The property will also need to be re-zoned before the project can move forward.
