LANSING, Mich. — A set of lucky numbers paid off for a Lansing woman who won a $250,000 prize playing the Michigan Lottery's KENO! game.
The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, matched 10 of the 22 numbers drawn Feb. 5. Her winning numbers were: 07-11-40-66-71-74-76-78-79-80. She bought her winning ticket at Kartar Liquor, located at 6200 South Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard in Lansing.
"I play my KENO! numbers every other day and I was getting ready to give up, but decided to buy a few more tickets," said the 42-year-old player. "My cousin called me the next day to tell me someone in Lansing won on KENO!, so I decided to check the winning numbers on the Lottery app. When I saw the winning numbers, I recognized them instantly and knew I was a winner.
"I also matched nine numbers on two other KENO! tickets from the same drawing to win two $2,500 prizes. I missed a $750,000 payday by just two numbers!"
She used a combination of birthdays and random numbers to select her numbers.
The lucky player visited Lottery headquarters on Tuesday to collect the big prize. With her winnings, she plans treat herself a little, but save the majority of the money.
KENO! tickets may be purchased for $1. Players select 10 numbers from one to 80 for a chance to win prizes ranging from a free instant ticket up to $250,000. Drawings for the game take place at 7:30 p.m. seven days a week.
About 97 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to vendors and retailers. In the 2018 fiscal year, the Lottery provided more than $941.2 million for Michigan's public schools, its fourth record contribution in row.
