An 18-year-old man from Lansing is dead after falling into the Spring Mill Pond. Green Oak Township Police confirm the name of the victim as Caelond Travis Pearson.

The man had been floating on a personal inflatable raft in the pond, fell from the raft and went below the water. Police say the victim couldn't swim, and family members who were gathered at the park for a party witnessed the drowning.

The Lansing man was outside the marked swim area when he fell. He was not wearing a personal flotation device, and was relying on the raft to stay afloat.

Green Oak Charter Township Police and Fire Departments responded to the incident on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at about 7:19 p.m. When they arrived they began searching for the drowning victim.

After an underwater search, they located the Lansing man about 24 feet deep, and 35 yards from the shoreline. He was removed from the water, and brought to shore where he was pronounced dead. He had been under water for about one hour and 45 minutes.
