LANSING, MIch. — The Catholic Diocese of Lansing has banned a senior Priest from the Church.
It’s the latest update in the scandal involving Catholic churches in Michigan and around the world. Reverend Patrick Egan was defrocked by the Catholic Diocese of Lansing last September.
Now the Diocese is saying that was done due to a credible allegation of inappropriate sexual behavior with a man.
The Diocese says Rev. Patrick Egan is a senior priest of the Archdiocese of Westminster in England. He currently lives in Washtenaw County.
Records show he served as Chaplain at a Chapel in Ann Arbor, which is in the Diocese of Lansing. No information about the ‘credible threat’ has been released by the Diocese.
The Diocese of Lansing says it has cut all ties to Egan, meaning he is not allowed minister as a Priest in any Parish, school or agency in or of the diocese.
Last month, WSYM FOX 47 reported the Catholic Diocese of Lansing said it was fully cooperating with the State Attorney General’s Investigation into possible sexual abuse by Catholic Priests.
Bishop Earl Boyea says the Diocese plans to release the names and results of a report done by an external agency to review how the Diocese handled sexual abuse allegations.
