Lansing celebrates launch of American Airlines nonstop flight to Washington, D.C.

Posted

On Tuesday, July 6 American Airlines began offering daily nonstop flights from Lansing's Capital Region International Airport (LAN) to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).

A ribbon cutting and water cannon salute set into motion the inaugural American Airlines flight to the DCA Tuesday at 6:30 a.m., with plans to return to LAN at approximately 6:53 p.m.

The added service will give Lansing area residents the ability to fly to Washington, D.C. and back to Lansing in the same day.

Howard Kass, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs for American Airlines says, said "While we know the service will certainly appeal to people who have business to conduct in Washington, D.C., we also hope to attract leisure travelers."

While the new flight option great for those traveling for business and pleasure, it's also key in bringing more money into Mid-Michigan.

"Having a direct flight from Michigan's capital to our nation's capital  is a major boost to Mid-Michigan's economy," said U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, a key supporter in resuming nonstop flights to DCA. "Continuing this important nonstop service benefits Michigan State University and the FRIB, local businesses and Port Lansing's international trade facilities."
