UPDATE: Jackson officer shoots suspect in domestic hostage situation

JACKSON, Mich. — Sunday, the 100 block of West Mansion street in Jackson was much calmer than the night before.

Police have not confirmed yet, but neighbors and witnesses say the suspect is 29-year-old Corey Lynn-Christopher Catlin, who posted a video on Facebook live broadcasting the incident.

FOX 47 News was able to get the video before Facebook took it down.

A neighbor said he was surprised the mother was living with her son, as the two had had problems.

And another was happy the fiancée and child were not hurt.

A Jackson Police officer is on administrative leave Saturday night after shooting a suspect in a domestic hostage situation.

Officer-involved shooting graphic (OIS) by MGN.Officers were dispatched to a residence on the 100 block of Mansion Street around 6:30 p.m. after a 911 call from a different location, according to a press release from the Jackson Police Department.

When officers arrived, they heard a man and woman screaming from inside the residence. One officer then saw through a window the man holding the woman in a headlock. Officers then entered the residence and saw the man wielding a knife and allegedly holding the woman hostage, according to the release.

One officer shot the suspect in the neck, allowing the woman, later identified as his mother, to get away. She had a stab wound on her back believed to be caused by the suspect. Both are being treated at Henry Ford Allegiance Health.

Police identify the man as a 29-year-old parole absconder from Jackson.

Michigan State Police is handling the criminal investigation. Per department policy, the Jackson officer who shot the suspect is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
