LANSING, Mich. — The Mayor of Jackson is taking action in his quest to get Jackson County Sheriff Steve Rand to resign.

Jackson Mayor Derek Dobies says he has delivered a package of documents over 260 pages to Governor Gretchen Whitmer to officially request she remove Sheriff Rand from office.

Rand was heard making racist and sexist comments on video recordings released as part of a lawsuit against him last year.

The sheriff apologized for the comments.

Mayor Dobies tells us he delivered dozens of documents to the governor's office telling Governor Whitmer why Sheriff Rand should go.

Last week, Governor Whitmer went along with the advice from Attorney General Dana Nessel and said she won't remove Sheriff Rand from office.

Mayor Dobies tells us he's hoping the documents will be enough evidence for them to change their minds.

There's no word on when the governor will respond to the mayor's request.
