LANSING, Mich. — If you're planning on driving anywhere Sunday morning, you might want to check out the following lane closures.
The bicycle race portion of the Hawk Island Triathlon will be reducing the traffic on roads.
The easternmost northbound travel lane on Pennsylvania Avenue between Keystone Avenue and Malcolm X Street will have lane closures beginning around 5:30 a.m.
Travel lane shifts beginning around 5:30 a.m. are the eastbound vehicular traffic on Mount Hope Avenue between Donora Street and Lindbergh Drive will be shifted to the center, left turn only, lane with left turns being prohibited and westbound vehicular traffic on Mount Hope Avenue between Lindbergh Drive to Pennsylvania Avenue will be prohibited from making left turns within the traffic shift area.
Motorists are advised to proceed with caution at:
•Southbound motorists on Aurelius Road between Mt Hope Avenue and Enterprise Drive are advised to watch for bicyclist along the western edge of the southbound travel/bike lanes. Southbound motorist may be allowed to travel in the center left turn lane under Lansing Police Department (LPD) supervision.
•Motorist will also be advised to watch for bicyclist along:
Malcolm X Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Aurelius Road
Enterprise Drive between Aurelius Road and Keystone Avenue,
Keystone Avenue between Enterprise Drive and Pennsylvania Avenue.
Street travel restrictions or closings to start around 7:45 a.m. are:
• Cavanaugh Road between Pennsylvania Avenue and Hawk Island Park will be closed to motorist until the conclusion of the bicycle portion of the Triathlon.
• Cavanaugh Road between Aurelius Road and entrance to Hawk Island Park will have LPD officers on site to aid with traffic operations. At certain times eastbound travel may be prohibited for safety reasons. Westbound travel may be allowed under LPD supervision within the Left Turn Only lane depending on volume of vehicles and bicycles.
Here are the following travel restrictions at intersections:
At around 6:00 a.m. the Intersection and Traffic Signal at Pennsylvanian Avenue and Mount Hope Avenue will be switch to a FOUR WAY STOP. LPD will have officers on site to aid with traffic operations.
At around 6:00 a.m. the traffic signals on Pennsylvania Avenue at the intersection of Hazel Street, Haco Drive, Baker Street, Pacific Avenue and Healthcare Court will also be put into flash mode. At these intersections the east and westbound traffic will be required to STOP prior to entering the intersection. North and southbound vehicles should approach these intersections with caution.
At around 8:00 a.m. the signals at Jolly Road and Pennsylvania Avenue along with Jolly Road and Aurelius Road will be put into a flash with both intersections under the supervision of LPD Officers
