LANSING, Mich. — Michigan's first responders received some recognition Wednesday morning.

The Michigan Association of Ambulance Services (MAAS) recognized statewide first responders from the ambulance industry in honor of Ambulance Awareness Day.

The recognition was held at the Capitol during the Stars of Life recognition ceremony, which is held every two years.

The Stars of Life program celebrates the contributions of ambulance professionals who go above and beyond the call of duty to serve their communities, or the EMS profession.

The event honors heroes in local communities while shedding light to the critical role EMS plays in Michigan's healthcare infrastructure.

EMS, paramedics and dispatchers and other EMS professionals were honored at the event.
