EAST LANSING, Mich. — Monday was the federal holiday honoring civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is present at the Civil Rights March in Washington D.C. on August 28, 1963.King delivered his last sermon, "I've been to the mountaintop," to an overflowing crowd on April 3, 1968, at a church in Memphis, Tennessee.
He was in Memphis supporting the city's striking sanitation workers.
The following day, he was assassinated.
King's life and achievements were celebrated at different events across the country.
The Martin Luther King Jr. memorial in Washington, D.C., honors his legacy and the struggle for freedom, equality and justice.
King led many historic marches and, on Monday, students at Michigan State University marched across campus in honor of his legacy.
The commemorative march, called "March for Justice," started at 3:15 p.m. at the Kellogg Center.
They marched to Beaumont Tower for an inspirational speech. The march was led by members of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
From 5-7 p.m., the MSU Community Dinner was held at the Hubbard Dining Hall.
