LANSING, Mich. — It’s well in to Spring time but the flu season isn’t going away just yet.

Health officials say the 2018-2019 flu season is now the longest flu season in a decade. They say the flu season usually starts in October and it can last anywhere from 11 to 20 weeks after that.

Doctors say even though this flu season has been the longest in more than 10 years it has not been as complicated or as deadly as it was in 2018. Still, they expect to see lots more patients with the flu in the coming weeks.

“What we’re seeing this year has been Influenza A, and there’s been two different strains,” said Dr. Patrick Fleming. “So there was one strain that was more prevalent earlier in the year and now we’re seeing a different strain.”

Doctors say even if you haven’t been vaccinated this year it’s still worth getting the flu shot. They say that your best bet against catching the flu.
The state says flu activity has been reduced from ‘widespread to ‘regional in the past week.

The flu has killed at least one child in 2019, two children died from the flu in 2018.
