LANSING, Mich. — Democrats are speaking out on a hot topic that many workers in Michigan have been fighting for over the past several months.

House and Senate Democrats are holding a press conference March 7 to call for a repeal of a law that impacted low-wage worker’s minimum pay. It would repeal a 2018 law that gutted minimum wage increase to low wage workers.

The increase was voted down by the Republican-led legislature during the Lame Duck session. The repeal would reinstate the minimum wage increase.

At the time, the increase was introduced by nearly 400,000 Michigan voters and was approved by majorities of the House and Senate.

The proposal will be introduced by Representative Bill Sowerby of Clinton Township and State Senator Betty Jean Alexander. The conference will take place at the Senate Hearing room in Lansing at 1:30 p.m.
