Caregiver accused of infant abuse arraigned

A caregiver who police arrested for 1st degree child abuseof an infant has been arraigned, according to the Ionia Department of Public Safety.

Autumn Skuse, was arraigned Tuesday in front 64 District Court Judge David Wirth of the one count of child abuse, 1st degree.

Her bond was set at $50,000 and she pled not guilty to the charge according to the department.

On Thursday, Ionia DPS responded to a medical call at 6:34 p.m. on N Jackson Street. Officers found an infant who they were told had fallen. Officers were told the infant hit its head.

The child was taken to Sparrow-Ionia Hospital by Life EMS. Hospital staff concluded that the infant had serious injuries, and the infant was transported to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.
