RIVES TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A car was pulled out of a pond in Rives Township Monday morning after a 21-year-old woman lost control of that car and crashed into a pond the day before.
It was a group effort to get the car out of the pond.
A neighbor was able to attach a magnet to a string that latched onto the car easily identifying where the car was in the water.
A family friend Monday morning swam to the car to hook cables onto the passenger side seat belt.
A tow truck was then able to pull the car out of the water.
Police responded to the accident around 5 a.m. Sunday morning at Rives Eaton Road and Lansing Avenue.
Neighbors speculate the woman was coming back from a party and took the bend of the road too fast and spun out.
When the car spun out it hit a tree breaking the passenger side window.
The car then continued into the pond where the driver was able to escape through the smashed passenger window.
After the woman was able to escape she walked back to the party she came from.
She did not report the accident right away and will be cited for not reporting an accident.
This is the first time an incident like this has happened in this pond.
However, neighbors say drivers are constantly speeding on the road and taking the bend too fast.
