LANSING, Mich. — The last day for you to file your 2018 tax return this year is Monday, April 15, which, to many people, may seem like it would be the busiest day of tax season.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) says the day after President’s Day is actually the busiest day for the department.

The IRS says millions of people take the three day weekend to work on their federal tax returns. They say people who call the agency before or after President’s Day weekend should be prepared for long wait times because of the number of call it is getting.

The IRS started accepting tax returns on January 28, and you should have received your W-2 form by now. If you’re a freelancer, you should have received your 1099 form by now.

With the large amount of calls the IRS will be getting, the IRS is encouraging people to visit its website to use its online resources. It also encourages people to file their taxes online to get their refunds as quickly as possible.

People may have been holding off on filing taxes because it’s the first time doing so since the Trump tax cut went into effect.

There is free help available through IRS' website [irs.gov], as well as by phone, and even in person.

If you are getting a refund this year, the IRS says you should get your money back fairly quickly.

It expects to issue 90% of refunds within 21 days
