According to a release, the incident occurred at 8:20 p.m. on July 20. Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff's Underwater Recovery Team were dispatched to the area to assist the Morin Point Fire Department in a search for a man that had fallen out of a 16-foot aluminum boat.

A preliminary investigation found that the victim was a passenger in the boat. The boat struck the wake of another watercraft, causing the man to fall out of the boat. The victim was not wearing a flotation device and never resurfaced.

Crews searched the area beginning Saturday, until 1:15 a.m. on Sunday. The search resumed Sunday morning until 2 p.m. when it was discontinued. The victim was never accounted for.
