An MSU basketball trainer was charged Monday in connection with a fatal crash over the summer.
Todd Moyer, 37, was charged with reckless driving causing death. He faces up to 15 years in prison, and fines from $2,500 to $10,000.
Moyer is the strength and conditioning coach for the Spartan men's basketball team.
MSU Athletic Director, Mark Hollis, released the following statement: “In light of the criminal charges filed today, Todd Moyer, an associate strength and conditioning coach, is not traveling with the men’s basketball team to Chicago. As the court proceedings continue in this tragic situation, the Athletics Department will monitor the case and gather more information before any further personnel decisions are made.”
The crash happened July 14th on U.S 23 north of Summerfield Road.
According to WDIV, prosecutors say Moyer was driving distracted in his 2007 Dodge Ram Truck and crashed into several cars.
Gladys Johnson, 35, of Redford, and Za-Kira Johnson, 5, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Moyer is expected to be back in court for a preliminary exam on November 29.
