Nearly 100 students, parents and teachers from the Michigan Connections Academy visited the Michigan Historical Museum and capitol today.
"It's a good opportunity for them to come and see the capitol," Amy Dunlap, a fourth grade teacher said. A lot of students aren't able to see it on their own.
"We love coming to the capitol," Aley Minton said. Aley is the mother of two students at MCA.
"My oldest son Ty is a freshman at Michigan Connections and Wyatt is a seventh grader."
MCA is an online public school. That means the students are coming together from all over the state.
Scott Wolchek talked with students and parents from Auburn Hills, Port Huron and the U.P. The trip didn't just provide an opportunity for the students to learn about the government, but to get the chance to meet their online friends.
"It's always fun to meet other families that do the school the same setting that we do," Aley said.
"What's nice is it gives them the socialization opportunities," Amy said. As well as they start to come more and more field trips they're able to meet their peers."
