JACKSON, Mich. (WSYM)-- The message they are sending to everyone is how they just want to be able to come home from work in one piece to their families.

This event was put together by Phelps Towing Incorporated, but there are 200 towing companies who are involved across the nation to pass the Spirit Ride along.

The casket symbolizes the lives lost while working roads. It's been going from city to city across the U.S.
Police and firefighters also showed up in Jackson to bring awareness to the Move Over Law and to show how important it is.

They said no one should have to lose their lives on the job.

"It's dangerous on these highways. We just don't get no respect. I mean it's just an awesome thing for all the emergency personnel, the tow truck drivers. It's a law that's not taken seriously as it needs to be," Dave Phelps said.

The law requires drivers to change lanes so officers, firefighters, ambulances, and in some cases, tow-truck drivers have enough room to do their work on the road. Ashlee Adams' fiance and an officer were almost victim to someone who didn't obey the law.

"They nearly got hit because it was winter and there was black ice and the cars were not slowing down. We need to slow down and move over for them," she said.

The casket will be leaving Jackson and heading to Muskegon, Michigan. After it leaves Muskegon, it will head to Indiana where they will also have a ceremony.
