Police arrested three people suspected of using a drone to smuggle a cell phone and drugs into a state prison in Ionia County Thursday morning.
Corrections officers at the Richard A. Handlon Correctional Facility heard the drone in the prison yard around 4 a.m. They watched as it dropped two packages near an inmate housing unit.
Prison staff contacted local police who tracked down the suspects in a vehicle near the prison. State troopers helped corrections staff search the prison grounds and surrounding area for any other contraband.
