Police clear standoff, murder suspect still at large

A murder suspect police are calling armed and dangerous is still at large after officers put a north Lansing neighborhood on lockdown for nearly six hours Friday night.

WANTED IN LANSING HOMICIDE

Police Chief Mike Yankowski says the suspect is 21-year-old Marcell Davis. Davis is wanted in connection with a the murder of 27-year-old Matthew Smoke who was killed in the 3000 block of South Washington Street on November 21st, 2016.

Lansing Police were looking for Davis at a home on the 900 block of North Walnut Street, when they say a man they believed to be Davis run to a home in the 900 block of North Capitol Avenue.

Officers surrounded the home and called in tactical teams, a helicopter, and negotiators to try to contact the people inside.

Hours later police were able to enter and search the home, but Davis was not inside.

Three people inside the home were taken into custody but have since been released.

Police say there is no known threat to the north Lansing neighborhood. They are asking anyone with information about Davis' whereabouts to call the Lansing Police Department.

UPDATE 12/2 9 p.m.
Lansing Police Chief Mike Yankowski says police are surrounding a home near Capitol Avenue and Walnut in Lansing. Police believe a wanted suspect is inside.

Dozens of emergency vehicles are on scene, including the Lansing START (Special Tactics and Rescue Team) and Lansing Fire Department. Yankowski says this suspect is believed to be volatile, and that's why so many officers are on scene.

Police have tried to negotiate with anyone inside the house, but no one has responded.

Police have a helicopter out, and they're searching for someone they describe as a wanted suspect.

They're asking that people avoid the 900 block of N. Capitol and N. Walnut in Lansing. There are more than a dozen officers in the area, some of them are armed with assault rifles.
