After receiving complaints about a phone scam where the caller was trying to get credit card information for the Fraternal Order of Police, the deputies called the number. The scammer tried to use the same scam on the deputies.

The Ionia County Sheriff's Office reports on their Facebook page that it received a complaint regarding the scam. The scammer said they were trying to raise funds for the FOB State Lodge and tried to get a credit card number.

Deputies called the number, and the person on the other end tried the same scam with them, the department reports. The scammer would not answer the deputies questions.

The sheriff's office wants to remind residents to beware of scams like this, and to never give out personal information or financial information over the phone.
