Starting today, crews will be temporarily removing the split merge traffic configuration along I-96 between US-127 and M-99 and placing two lanes of westbound traffic back on the westbound side of the freeway. Eastbound traffic will stay in the configuration it is currently.

Two lanes will remain open in each direction on I-96 while the switch is taking place.

Traffic will stay in this configuration over the Memorial Day weekend.

Sometime next week the split merge traffic configuration will once again be implemented, this time for eastbound I-96 traffic.

After Memorial Day, three lanes of traffic will be maintained on westbound I-96 using barrier wall, with one lane of traffic, or local lane, maintained on the eastbound side of the freeway. Motorists will need to use the local lane to exit and enter Cedar Street during construction.
