AURELIUS TWP., Mich. (WSYM) - The Ingham County Sheriff's Office is investigating after human remains were found in the Grand River Friday evening.

Deputies were called to Columbia and Waverly Roads in Aurelius Township where the river flows under the road. They say several people were pulling debris from the water when they located what they though may have been a human bone. Responding deputies say there was a "strong indication" additional remains could be in the water. The Capital Area Dive Team was called in a found a submerged container with remains inside.

The Sheriff's Office says it's working with the Medical Examiner's Office to determine the identity of the remains. They say it's unclear how long the remains have been in the water.
