When you walk into a brewery you want to feel like you belong, especially if you aren't a craft beer connoisseur. That's exactly the way Ellison Brewery + Spirits in East Lansing aims to make customers feel.

"We envisioned opening up a brewery that invites everyone," said Eric Elliot, co-owner of Ellison Brewery + Spirits.

The bar area itself is cozy with a couple picnic-like tables, adding to the feel of community even more.

"We like to refer to ourselves as a clubhouse, where everyone and anyone is welcome," said Elliot.

The idea of having a clubhouse feel goes back to the formation of the brewery.

"Back then, every town had it's own brewery. They would visit the brewery, meet the brewer and conduct meetings at the brewery," Elliot said.

Another goal of Ellison's is to keep the brand local.

"We really want to focus on Michigan and [producing] high quality craft beer," he said.

Although the brewery recently opened in October 2015, the brand is quickly becoming well known. You can often spot Ellison Brewery + Spirits at beer fest events and featured in tap takeovers across Michigan.
