You Can Now Buy Whisky Cheese

Of all the food mash-ups we’ve seen in recent years (yes, cotton candy grapes are real), the best ones, no doubt, involve alcohol.

The newest treat on the block? Whisky cheese! Made with The Macallan, a luxury single malt whisky, the scotch-inspired cheese called Murray’s Cavemaster Special Edition Cask was washed in Macallan Double Cask Gold and then aged in a washed rind cave for 3-4 weeks.

The Cask flavor is described as mellow and smooth with toasty notes of peanut butter and buttermilk, with a delicate, creamy texture and a “hint of dark fruit,” according to the product description. It apparently pairs well with Scotch. You can buy it now, but only for a limited time and only online at MurraysCheese.com for $29. “We’re pouring out something incredible with the creation of Cask, an exclusive special edition of our beloved Cavemaster Reserve Greensward made with The Macallan whisky,” the product description reads. “Greensward, an award-winning collaboration with the Cellars at Jasper Hill, is a spruce-wrapped, washed rind wheel of spoonable, bacony bliss bursting with a bold woodsy savor. For this Scotch-inspired cheese, we teamed up with The Macallan, one of the world’s finest whisky producers since 1824, to craft an original Caves release imbued with the rich, oak-matured style of this internationally renowned legacy.”

Sounds tasty, right?

If you’re looking for a cheese you can purchase in a store, Kerrygold makes an aged cheddar with Irish whiskey cheese. Described as rich, creamy, smooth and woody, you can find it a variety of retailers like Kroger and Walmart.

Or, if whisky/whiskey (whether Scotch or Irish) isn’t your thing, Murray’s Cheese also has a Ubriaco pinot rose cheese that puts aged cow’s milk cheese inside a rose-rinded wheel, then bathes it in sparkling wine. The cheese has a flavor profile of a sweet, white vintage — like a “buttery chardonnay, citrusy sauvignon blanc, and syrupy gewurztraminer,” the product description says.

If you’ve rather mix cheese and alcohol yourself, take a look at this amazing-sounding red wine grilled cheese! Yes, you can easily drink red wine alongside your grilled cheese sandwich — or you can combine the two and have what very well might be the best grilled cheese in history.

While you can use whatever wine and cheese you’d like, the recipe from The BS’ in the Kitchen blog calls for cabernet sauvignon and Gruyère. You’ll also need red onion, garlic and rosemary. Yum!
