BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Binder Park Zoo will take full advantage of West Michigan’s beautiful fall season with the launch of a special extended season of fun at the zoo.

The last day of the regular season is Sunday, October 6, when the zoo closes to prepare for Bonteboktoberfest – the tenth annual beer tasting festival on Saturday, October 12. The zoo reopens on October 14 for “FALL into the ZOO” – an extended season that features a series of one day events. Open daily from 10-4, admission will be reduced to $10 per person (free for zoo members). FALL into the ZOO will replace ZooBoo including the following themed days for all ages to enjoy:

Senior Safari -Wednesday, October 16 - Seniors 60+ will receive FREE admission for activities, games and more. Sponsored by Senior Health Partners.

Zoorific Kids Day - Saturday, October 19 - It’s a day for youngsters and their families to visit the zoo and meet guest vendors and mascots, enjoy demonstrations, activities, animal encounters and more. Sponsored by Meijer

Stroller Safari - Tuesday, October 22 – Geared for parents with tots, with special play-stations, pumpkin-coloring and other age-appropriate activities.

Harvest Celebration - Saturday, October 26 - Watch as the zoo animals receive harvest-themed enrichment, and admire a collection of antique tractors on display inside the zoo and much more.

TAILgate at the Zoo -Sunday, October 27 - What better place to tailgate than at the zoo? Come dressed in your team colors for the Lions vs Giants game complete with beer stations, prizes to win and general game day merriment!

“We are excited to roll out this extended season of fun at the zoo,” states Leslie Walsh, zoo spokesperson. “While nearly everyone has cherished memories of ZooBoo from years gone by, we realized that today’s families are actually looking for fresh, different and more engaging experiences. You should never outgrow the zoo,” says Walsh, “and these single day events will offer something for everyone to celebrate one of the most beautiful seasons in Michigan at one of the most beautiful and natural zoos in the Midwest – Binder Park Zoo.”

Fall is an ideal time to visit the zoo. Dressed in glorious fall colors, the 433 acre park provides a stunning backdrop for guests to enjoy a true Pure Michigan experience. Wander the pathways of the East Zoo to visit the snow leopard, black bears and red panda, and sneak a peek of the three Mexican gray wolf pups born this summer. Take the mile-and-half “color tour” through the zoo outback aboard the restored 1963 Z.O.& O. train. Select your favorite animal to ride for a spin on the Binda Conservation Carousel. Where else can you say you rode zebra or a giraffe? Hop the Wilderness tram to Wild Africa and get face to face with a lion, watch the antics of the African painted dog pups, and say hello to “Al” the 600 pound, 80-year old, Aldabra giant tortoise.

No two visits are the same at Binder Park Zoo where memorable experiences make connections to nature that provide inspiration for ALL ages to conserve our natural world!

Regular zoo hours apply through Labor Day. Hours change to 10-4 on Tuesday, September 3, daily through Sunday, October 6 and will close Monday, October 7 through Sunday, October 13. FALL into the ZOO happens daily 10-4 Oct. 14-31.
