A pair of red panda cubs born at Potter Park Zoo last summer, are getting ready to move to a new home. Pabu and Roji will be going to a brand new red panda facility at the Capron Zoo in Attleboro, Massachusetts.
Potter Park's curator Sarah Pechtel says “The cubs have been very popular here at Potter Park Zoo. We wanted to let the community know they would be moving so people would have a chance to stop in and see them before they leave.”
The cubs were born July 2, 2016 to mother Maliha and father Rupert Jr. The birth was the result of a breeding program at the zoo. The program included the construction of a new expanded red panda exhibit at Potter Park.
The animal care team at the zoo is hoping that they will be able to breed Maliha and Ruper Jr. again, possibly as soon as next year. The pair are part of the the Red Panda Species Survival Plan (SSP) of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Red pandas are native to Asia, and are currently endangered.
