People in the United States are living longer. A new study shows the average lifespan is just 79 years.
That's five years longer than a similar study done in 1980. But there was a gap in areas across the nation.
Several counties in the West had life expectancy's 20 years lower. Lifespan increased along both coasts while many southern counties showed little improvement.
Experts say this gap is most likely due to differences in income, race and health care access.
