According to a new study, not all patients should receive anti-clotting medications before general surgery.
Researchers from the Utah School of Medicine reviewed medical records from 13 different studies to try to determine which patients would benefit from anti-coagulants.
They found that among those patients that were considered to be at high risk for clotting, anti-clotting medications made a big difference in clotting rates.
Among those who were considered to be mid to low risk, anti-coagulants did not seem to make a significant difference.
