John Kennedy was in the White House when Helen Weinman of Lansing began volunteering at Sparrow. Mrs. Weinman will be among 140 Volunteers honored at Sparrow’s annual Volunteer Awards Luncheon, providing service to the mid-Michigan region ranging from five to 55 years.

This year’s celebration will include a special award presentation for Mrs. Weinman who will receive her 55-year service award. Mrs. Weinman serves in the Mary Magdalen League, which operates the St. Lawrence Gift Shop. When she began volunteering more than a half century ago, she was part of the “Gray Ladies” from the Red Cross who staffed hospital information desks.
