A former nurse has a settled a whistleblower lawsuit with Sparrow-Carson City Hospital.

Jonnie Vanderhoef says he reached an agreement with Sparrow earlier this week. Vanderhoef claimed he was unlawfully fired from Sparrow Carson last year because he complained about unsafe medical practices from Dr. Raymond Allard.

In a statement to FOX 47, Sparrow spokeswoman Ilene Cantor said "We thank Mr. Vanderhoef for speaking up and appreciate his dedication to patient safety, one that we deeply share...Resolution allows us to continue to move forward, with our focus on putting patient safety first and ensuring excellent, quality health care for all those we serve."

Vanderhoef and Sparrow Health Systems are not releasing details of the settlement.

Shortly after the lawsuit was filed, the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services threatened to cut funding to the hospital because of infection problems. Sparrow says it is taking steps to fix the issues.

Dr. Allard has formally resigned from the Sparrow-Carson medical staff.
