LANSING, Mich. — Five Sparrow Hospital Nurses have been given special recognition for their quality, compassionate care and service as part of activities celebrating National Nurses Week.

Cyndi Dupuis, a Critical Care Float Nurse, was named Nurse of the Year after being lauded for her education, training, and empathy and compassion toward her Patients.

Others receiving special honors at Sparrow Hospital today were:

  • Elizabeth Anderson, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nursing Education, Advanced Practice Nurse of the Year
  • Justen Waiter, Cardiac Progressive Unit, Charge Nurse of the Year
  • Erin Gilbert-Eyres, Labor and Delivery, and Amanda Tanner, Cardiac Stepdown, Preceptor of the Year

Two Sparrow medical teams were also cited for providing exceptional care and for research projects aimed at improving Patient care.

Sparrow’s Pain Resource Committee and the Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Nursing team were recognized with Nursing Excellence awards.

Sparrow Carson Hospital honored Kelsie Smith, a Med/Surg Nurse, as its Nurse of the Year. The

Sparrow Clinton Hospital Nurse of the Year will be announced Friday, and Sparrow Ionia Hospital named Kathy Raby, who provides care to Patients in the Oncology/Hematology Center, as its Nurse of the Year.

“Kathy sets an example by following our values of trust, respect, kindness, and team work,” said Lisa Sinko, Raby’s manager. “She loves her Patients and they genuinely feel it. Kathy has gone above and beyond for Patients, even personally creating education sheets for them.”

Sparrow is extremely proud of its more than 2,000 Nurses.

As a designated Nurse Magnet Hospital, Sparrow is a recognized leader in Nursing excellence, innovative professional Nursing practices, and quality Patient care. The Nurse Magnet designation is the nation’s most prestigious honor for Nursing achievement and excellence.

Considered the gold standard for nursing care in hospitals, Magnet status is held by only about 6 percent of American hospitals. Sparrow received redesignation in 2014 as a Nurse Magnet hospital, which is held by just 2 percent of hospitals.
