What: The nation’s opioid crisis has been well-documented, increasing the public’s awareness of the risks associated with opioids. Sparrow is using its innovation and IT expertise to decrease risk associated with opioids while treating the Patients’ pain and improving care. The project utilizes an IT program to analyze risk for adverse effects so that Caregivers can provide enhanced monitoring for some Patients and reduce or eliminate when opioids are prescribed for high-risk individuals. It has significantly reduced the number of Patients who exhibit adverse effects and require life-saving measures after taking opioid medicine, reflecting an overall decline in the numbers of those receiving the drugs. We will provide visuals of the IT program, and a Sparrow Nurse Researcher and IT specialist will be on hand to discuss the project.

Where: Sparrow Hospital, 1215 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing. A representative of the Sparrow Marketing Department will meet media near the Starbucks in the hospital lobby and escort them to the event.

When: Tuesday, April 3, 10 a.m.

How: Any reporter or media wishing to attend the event should contact John Foren, Director of Media and Public Relations, at 517.364.8093 or 517.256.1743.
