LANSING, MI – Fantastic sunny Michigan weather means enjoying being outdoors, but it also requires being vigilant to protect your skin from cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates more than 87,000 Americans will be diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer this year, the most serious type of skin cancer. The good news is that skin cancer can be very curable when found early.
The Sparrow Cancer Center will again conduct a free skin cancer screening on Tuesday, June 6. A limited number of slots are still available and appointments are required. To schedule an appointment, call 1.800.SPARROW (772.7769).
Screenings will take place from 5-7 p.m. at the Sparrow Cancer Center, 1215 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing.
Free parking is available on the upper lot of the parking ramp at the corner of Holmes Street and Michigan Avenue.
More than 5.4 million cases of skin cancer, the most common of all cancers, are diagnosed each year in the United States, according to the American Cancer Society. Malignant melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer, claims one life every hour.
“Skin cancer screening is a very easy process and can save your life,” said Gordan Srkalovic, M.D., Director of the Clinical Trials Center at the Sparrow Cancer Center. “As part of our mission to improve the health of the mid-Michigan region, we also encourage routine self-examinations.”
